Benign Growth of the Kidney

Questions for Dr. Landman

Metanephric Adenoma
A metanephric adenoma is a rare type of benign kidney growth.  Under a microscope, the cells typically form small clusters and generally have a benign appearance.  Occasionally, under the microscope, a metanephric adenoma may be difficult to distinguish from a papillary carcinoma.  As this is a very rare tumor, little is known about the natural history of the disease, but it does have a uniformly benign course.
