Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma
Chromophobe renal cell carcinomas are relatively rare representing approximately 3 to 5% of all kidney cancers. As these tumors are somewhat less common that conventional renal cell carcinomas and other kidney cancer subtypes, the overall aggressiveness and prognosis of chromophobe renal cell carcinomas is less well known.
The majority of studies which are currently available
suggest that chromophobe renal cell carcinomas are less aggressive
than most conventional renal cell carcinomas, and have an overall
good prognosis when treated early. These tumors tend to remain
localized even when they have grown to substantial size.
